Close to a thousand young people have been trained by the REC through its Internship and Young Environmental Leaders Programmes over the last 15 years.

In the framework of the Internship Programme, graduates and undergraduates spend between three and six months at the REC assisting in the implementation of challenging international projects in the various fields of sustainable development and environmental protection. Interns are actively involved in both the design and implementation phases of the projects and are supervised and guided by senior members of the REC staff.

The Young Environmental Leaders Programme offers advanced training in organisational development and project management skills in a stimulating international atmosphere. Each two-week session comprises both theoretical and practical training. The theoretical training takes place in the multicultural setting of the REC’s head office in Szentendre, Hungary. Participants gain practical experience through site visits to national parks, reserves, waste plants, energy plants and other environmental civil society organisations, where they learn about the latest environmental approaches to the conservation of protected areas, sustainable agriculture, water resources and waste management, and energy efficiency.
